Two neighbors charged in Eaton Township backyard shooting

Krissie Gonzalez 32 and James Bailey 30 face charges of falsification and obstructing official business with negligent assault in the June backyard shooting of Bob Rothacker. Rothacker was struck in the leg while filling a birdfeeder on Brokaw Road and treated at St John Medical Center and MetroHealth.

Elyria teen admits arson charges in four counts

Elyria 15 year old Michael Towne pleaded to four counts of arson in exchange for lesser charges. He could be ordered held at an Ohio Youth Services facility until he is 21 when sentenced later this month. He admitted involvement in the June 27 fire at 417 West River Road and an April garage fire and will cooperate on other unsolved arsons in the city.

Scarecrow Fest Opens to Benefit Local Charities

Oberlin Nursery at 43974 State Route 511 Oberlin hosts its annual Scarecrow Fest and Contest to raise funds for Oberlin Community Services food pantry and other nonprofits. Event runs Friday through Sunday with food-item voting and a silent auction for scarecrows.

North Ridgeville Mayor warns over sickout in city service

Mayor David Gillock vowed to send a letter to the head of the Service Department union after about 18 workers called in sick on Sept. 23, roughly half the department, in contract talks. Supervisor Bill Gluvna said he cannot confirm it was a sickout but warned future incidents will be addressed.

Ray Riley former Elyria officer dies at 59

Ray Riley a longtime Elyria police officer and investigator for Lorain County died at 59 after a brief illness. He began as a rookie in 1972 and spent years serving the police department, county coroner staff, and the county prosecutor’s office.

Lorain firm opens $4 million energy systems building

A Lorain company celebrating a renovation under its third owner officially opened the Emerson Network Power Energy Systems facility at 1510 Kansas Ave. The project consolidates operations from five nearby F Street buildings and moved about 270 workers to the refurbished site in September marking a major milestone.
