Bush undergoes minor finger surgery at Walter Reed

President Bush had a minor procedure to remove a cyst from his finger at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He left for Camp David with the finger bandaged, saying he felt fine and expecting possible pain later as pain meds would be prescribed if needed. The White House called the operation entirely successful with eight stitches and a two to three week splint, noting no long term movement impairment anticipated. The cyst was described as benign, with a pathological exam pending.

LCCC Eyes Four Year Degrees by 1990s Center Plan

Lorain County Community College aims to offer four year degree programs by the mid-1990s through a proposed University Center. President Roy Church announced the plan during a Chronicle Telegram briefing and said state lawmakers will be urged to fund the project to serve working adults and others unable to attend classes in Cleveland or nearby universities. Clearview Hears Plan to Hire Substitutes in Strike Scenario

Clearview Board of Education unanimously votes to hire substitute workers if non-teaching staff go on strike. Bargaining talks continue with OAPSE, as about 60 attendees observe. Ridgeville builder charged with assault

Karl Kiesel, builder and owner of Fields Home Center, appeared in Mayors Court facing two counts of assault and one count of criminal endangering for alleged incidents on September 28 and 29. He reportedly tried to run down a construction worker and struck another with a hoe. Not guilty pleas were entered as he seeks legal representation. a pre-trial conference was scheduled.

Lowell Street bridge repair plan heads to commissioners

Elyria officials will ask Lorain County Commissioners to approve funding for repairs to the deteriorated Lowell Street bridge. The old railroad overpass east of the Fisher Guide plant would be rebuilt in 1991 at an estimated cost between 718000 and 28 million.

Power outage delays Chronicle-Telegram printing

A transformer feeding the Chronicle-Telegram failed around 5 15 p m Friday causing a lengthy outage. An Ohio Edison crew worked about five hours to restore power and the paper resumed normal delivery for the Sunday edition.
