Three children found alone in locked Lorain home
Police were called to a Sunset Boulevard residence to find a 3-year-old girl unlocking a locked door for entry. An 18‑month-old boy and 4-year-old cousin slept upstairs while two mothers, Damaris Guzman and Brunilda Garcia, both 20, were away. They had left four children in the care of a 60-year-old man at a vacant apartment. A separate incident noted a barefoot mother with two young children on Oberlin Avenue in 42 degree weather. Vermilion girl still hospitalized after Saturday crash
Dina Vanmeter, 15, of 413 Niagara, remains in serious condition after a two-car crash on Baumbhart Road near Route 2. Her brother Kenneth, 18, and Ernest L. Thomas, 19, were treated for minor injuries. Norris Latteman, 61, and his wife were uninjured. Latteman cited for unsafe lane change.

Oberlin man’s stabbing case delayed to Oct. 15
Lorain County Common Pleas Court postponed the trial of 35 year old Raymond C. Ellington of Oberlin on attempted aggravated murder charges linked to the March 22 stabbing of Delores Vickers, 32. Both were found unconscious in Vickers’ Oberlin living room with a knife protruding, paint and debris present, Ellington later arrested. Vickers has recovered.
