Lorain school board defeated Superintendent John Paine’s plan for a 30 member citizen committee to study declining enrollment and possible closings. A 2-2 vote, with James Dayka absent, led the board to require Paine to submit a coping plan by Feb 1 and to vote on his recommendations after March 30.
Avon mayor Neil Archambeau will restart the mayor's court on November 9 at 7 pm, held every second and fourth Tuesday. He had abolished the court after taking office in January, sending cases to Avon Lake Municipal Court and sharing court costs with neighboring Sheffield Village. Archambeau now projects a $15,000 annual shortfall unless the court is reinstated and Avon collects all court costs.
