Police pick up man wanted in robbery assault

LORAIN The second man sought by police for a July apartment invasion in which a woman was sexually assaulted and her husband was beaten was picked up Friday by the county's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. Kenneth Sturgill, 26, of Lorain, was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts aggravated burglary, felonious assault and kidnapping for his role in the July 27 attack. Lorain police Sgt. Mark Carpentiere said Sturgill and George Houle, 26, also of Lorain, pushed their way into an East Erie Avenue apartment, beating the 21-year-old male resident before sexually assaulting his 21-year-old wife with a flashlight. The two men were wearing bandanas over their faces and had a gun when they knocked on the couple's door about 11 pm, and forced their way inside when the husband answered. Lorain police said Sturgill and Houle beat and tied up the male resident, then tied up the woman, and. Sexually assaulted her. The two didn't disturb the couple's 2-year-old and infant children who were sleeping at the time, but made off with some electronics, money, guitar and jewelry. The Lorain County division of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force picked up Sturgill without incident along the 2600 block of West Erie Avenue Friday morning. He remained in the Lorain County Jail on Friday night on $125,000 bond. George Houle has been indicted by a county grand jury for his role in the invasion. He was released from the county jail on Tuesday. Contact Stephen Szucs at 336-4016 or sszucs chroniclet.com.
