Disabled Soviet sub sinks east of Bermuda
The disabled Yankee class nuclear submarine sank east of Bermuda before dawn. Officials say survivors were seen aboard Soviet merchant ships during a towing operation. The sub, wracked by fire and explosion, went under about 18,000 feet deep, 1 040 nautical miles east of Cape Hatteras. No casualty figure confirmed yet. President Reagan had been informed. Moscow offered no details.
