Elyria Police Narcotics Unit led a multi agency sweep with 16 Elyria arrests and warrants in an operation targeting heroin and cocaine dealers. Police declined to list detainees. raids began in April and stretched across several months. Local officials praised the effort and noted resident concerns about drug activity.
Elyria City Council unanimously supports Issue 23, the Elyria Schools 3.86 mill 35-year property tax proposal on the November ballot. The plan seeks about 60 million of the 140 million master plan to reduce the district footprint from 11 to five schools with new campuses and facilities.
Beyond the Walls Church gets 2000 relief from Elyria building permit costs as it renovates the former Roosevelt Elementary School to meet code. After a May cease order halted services and the food bank, a July temporary occupancy permit allowed indoor services and meal resumption while remaining work continues toward full compliance.
In Lorain County Clearview Schools kept students inside for recess after a roaming clown scare text to a student. Capt. Rick Thomas of the sheriff’s office said there was no perceived threat and deputies were stationed at the school as a precaution.
