New York area lawyer Robert Schwartz promotes his book Write Your Own Will urging education on estate planning. He notes many misbeliefs about whom money goes to when there is no will and cites common problems like heirloom fights and overly clever provisions that can invalidate a will.
Ohio Attorney General C William ONeill begins a test of the new anti slot machine law by visiting Urbana with an assistant to confer on a Dodson case. Judge Marion B Owen has barred officials from interfering with Dodson and his machines while the suit waits. Knox County may move faster as a grand jury weighs indictments for possession of slots, potentially triggering an early test of the law.
DETROIT The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies protested a government ruling that lightning rods are ornamental metal work and ineligible for scarce copper supplies. Harry L. Gross, president, said describing lightning rods as ornaments is absurd given 19 years of fires totaling at least 200,000 reported incidents.
The Utilities Commission extended a 30 day hearing on gas service protests by Lake Placentia residents against the Natural Gas Co of West Virginia and Lake Placentia Park Co. Robert J. Legg of Lake Placentia accused the companies of discriminatory shutoffs last June, affecting about 55 homes and prompting discussion after the company proposed piping gas to the area at no charge except main line connections.
Harry Flynn, a former Elyrian and ex secretary of the Lorain County Industrial Council, is promoted to assistant general counsel at the Aluruum Company of America in Elyria Ohio. He is a Harvard graduate and labor law specialist involved in the arbitration panel under the 1947 joint labor contract. The promotion was announced in Pittsburgh and the company notes his role in arbitration negotiations.
