The center in the School of Agriculture will cost 170000 dollars, with 15000 dollars yearly for eight exhibits, funded by private donations. Four inductees were named: Arthur Carrier, Mary Curry, Grace Harsh, and the late J Lynn Gower. The Springfield chapter founder Albert B Graham will be honored with a portrait. Dangers of silo filler's disease to birds animals and people
Dairymen should note silo filler's disease from silage. Toxic gases form in 12 to 24 hours, injure lungs, and are hard to cure. Prevention is key. Keep people and animals away from newly filled silos, use long blower operation, avoid seven to ten days entry delays, and inspect for orange gases before entering.
Crop prices rise but ranchers face ongoing woes
Crop prices climbed last month as drought damage deepened, while ranchers slaughter cattle to cope with high feed costs and burned-out pastures. Livestock prices fell 1.4 percent in September, dragging the overall farm price index 0.7 percent higher than a year ago. The Agriculture Department noted rising farm expenses, up 0.6 percent in September, driven by feed costs, with expenses 2.5 percent above last year. The report cited declines in cattle hog prices and some produce offsetting gains in soybeans, lettuce and apples.

Twilight years in a crowded home of memories and new neighbors
In this reflective account, a couple faces empty rooms and a bustling household as children, spouses, and new tenants fill the space. They adjust to quieter evenings, share routines with friends, and foresee renewed activity despite aging, with Orrin returning to farming and Dane’s family moving in next door, reshaping life in retirement. Washington notices another matter as the American rice industry renews a trade complaint against Taiwan over subsidies, awaiting Brock's decision by Oct. 5.
