Lorain County commissioners and engineers attended a Cleveland conference on the 1925 1926 highway program. County officials discussed projects including construction resurfacing widening bridges and maintenance with state highway leaders and the Ohio Good Roads Federation.

Found Guilty in Tar and Feather Mob Case

Frederick Maryland October 3 Harry Leatherman former Sunday school teacher was found guilty in circuit court of aiding and abetting Mrs Shank the ring leader of the mob that tarred and feathered Dorothy Grandon last July. Featherman found not guilty on the charge of actually pouring tar and feathers. Sentence suspended as twenty other defendants await trial next week.

Auto Spill On Court Street Damages Two Cars

Three autos collided on Court street this afternoon. Lou Tyler drove from in front of Elyria Telephone Co when Al Jackson failed to observe and struck a hub. Tyler’s car rear ended Fire Chief Bates’s vehicle. Tyler’s axle was sprung and the car was scratched while Jackson’s ran board was damaged. Bates’s car remained undamaged. In Mount Vernon, William Bartlett, 56, was gored to death by a bull on his farm as neighbors tried to rescue him, blocked by the animal until a small dog routed it.

Marion Ohio Officials Inspect City Sewage Plant

Marion Ohio city officials inspect the sewage disposal plant to consider hiring a sanitary engineer for plans and recommendations to install a new system by June 5 1925 under State Health Department orders. Authority to hire was granted by City Council. The Erie Pennsylvania system was a model, and a 1923 order to stop discharging into Black River set a two year deadline. An extension was refused though a later extension may be possible after remedial action.

Lorain Tornado Linked to Lasting Mental Effects

Dr. Valloyd Adair of Lorain reports neuro psychiatric effects from the Lorain tornado of June 28, especially among women and children. He predicts some cases may never heal, while most will improve with rest. He urges a formal emergency plan with a designated physician in charge of outside aid. Official toll lists 62 dead in Lorain, 73 in area, with 837 injured overall.

Drunken driver fined after crash in Grafton

In pole court this morning George Eberhart of Grafton was fined $100 and costs for a charge of driving while intoxicated after his state truck hit a parked vehicle near Hast Broad Street. His passenger Mrs Burrell was slightly injured. Patrolmen Obitts and Witter investigated and he posted bond to appear in court today. A separate collision on Broad Street involved G B Moor of Cleveland and J H Fourtney of Illinois. damage was minor.

Traffic jams hamper Elyria fire response on Cleveland Street

Elyria to Let Garbage Contract Next Tuesday

Elyria will award a five year garbage collection contract Tuesday by the service director from bids publicized for weeks. City council authorized the letting on Aug 4 to replace the previous two week contract. The new contract requires weekly collection and sanitary disposal. Mendelson Reduction Co. currently handles Elyria’s garbage, disposing of it in Elyria township.
