Two Boys Suffer Head Injuries In Truck Rollover

Frank Vitowitz aged 20 and Eli Vitowitz aged 15 of Columbia Station were treated for head injuries after a truck rolled onto its top on Route 113 near West Ridge Road. Driver George Demyan 23 from Cowley road said the skid occurred when he braked to avoid a car.

Christmas Carols Reach Front-Line Troops in Korea

American soldiers heard familiar Christmas carols broadcast from a loudspeaker behind Chinese lines on Wednesday night. The gesture appeared intended to evoke homesickness among troops on the Western Front in Korea.

Tax Distribution Now Under Way

Distribution of 2 631 365 of real estate taxes collected in the last half of the year is being paid to the state county and subdivisions by County Auditor Frank Ayres department. Also included is 97 953 in special assessments and inheritance taxes totaling 83 564. The three principal local beneficiaries are Elyria Lorain and Eaton with 16 767 10 863 and 5 028 respectively. Half of the 83 564 inheritance tax goes to the state and the other half to the originating subdivisions. Delinquency is small with year start at 350 916 reduced by 23 892 this year. The state gets 51 045 for soldiers bonus bonds retired after World War II. County 244 392 towns 89 608 municipalities 589 305 schools 1 628 679. 15 538 in trailer taxes with state 329 county 1 565 towns 1 255 municipalities 1 318 schools 11 069. Indicted for Murder in Squirrel Hunt Slaying

PORTSMOUTH Julius Henderson, 43, was indicted for second degree murder in the death of Game Protector Pete Andre. A second warden was attempting to arrest Henderson Sept. 7 for hunting squirrel out of season when the shooting occurred.

Sullivan Man Dies at Route 58 Crossing

Edward Curtis Johnson 72 of Sullivan was killed by a Baltimore and Ohio train at the Route 58 crossing at 5:45 a.m. The coroner withholds verdict after questioning the crew. Johnson, a farmer and craftsman, leaves a foster daughter, granddaughter, four brothers, and three sisters. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Saturday in Sullivan with Rev. Douglas Snyder officiating.

Grafton Oberlin Join In Opposing Phone Rate Hike

Seventeen municipalities three counties and several trade groups appeared today before the Ohio Public Utilities Commission to oppose an 830 387 rate increase sought by the Ohio Northern Telephone Co. Grafton and Oberlin were among the opponents with Ashland and Lorain counties joining the effort. Sidney Griffith the company attorney said the hike would yield a 3 11 percent return on investment calling it fair and reasonable.
