Ohio third graders face retention under reading guarantee
Joshua Rowell, a Clinton Elementary student, joined summer school activities to boost reading after missing the target, with Ohio using the Third Grade Reading Guarantee to promote or hold back. The policy, spreading from Florida, allows multiple assessment options and aims to reduce later remedial work.

Colleges underreport campus sex crimes said by Columbus Dispatch
The Columbus Dispatch and Student Press Law Center analyzed 12 years of crime data from nearly 1,800 colleges with housing. They found about half reported zero sexual assaults and two-thirds no serious physical assaults in any year, with about one in five saying there has never been a sexual assault. The Education Department oversees compliance but critics cite underreporting and loose enforcement. Affected by definitional boundaries, dating violence and stalking will be added to reporting this year.
