The Coldwater Ridge Visitor Center at Mount St Helens will permanently close Nov 4 or 5. The center opened 14 years ago and offered year round views of the crater, but funding cuts and maintenance costs make continued operation unaffordable. Visitors lament the loss as Johnston Ridge Observatory remains seasonally closed, leaving no nearby center with a crater view during late fall and winter.
