Ex-rec chief convicted of corrupting minor

ELYRIA The former director of the Sheffield Lake Recreation Department was found guilty on six counts of corrupting another with drugs. Kathleen Kovach, 43, faced one day of testimony and waived a jury trial. Sentencing follows a background report by the probation department.

Stoneco to shut Dec I

Stoneco Inc will permanently close its asphalt plant on Pearl Avenue in Lorain. The Ohio EPA says the plant must cease operations by December 1 and cannot resume at that site. City officials celebrate the victory over pollution concerns.

Three Boys Admit Starting Lumber Fire

Sheffield Lake police said three boys ages 12 and 14 confessed to starting a blaze that destroyed a storage building at a local lumberyard. They were charged with juvenile arson counts and taken to the detention home. Hearings were expected today in Juvenile Court.

One Oberlin HS Teacher Assaulted. Two Students Detained

At Oberlin High School two students ages 15 and 17 assaulted shop teacher Richard Garvelink at 8 40 AM after being told to quiet down. Garvelink was grabbed and hit several times. the trio fell to the floor as other students sought help. The two boys were taken to the county detention home. The 17 year old faces a juvenile felonious assault count.
