Sunday birds of prey day at Lorain parks center
A six hour program at Lorain County Metropolitan Park District Diagonal Road visitors center features live birds of prey. The event runs noon to 6 pm with talks hikes and silk screening on shirts. Eight experts including Scott Adamson Harvey Webster and Joseph Edgar share displays and demonstrations.

Deer plentiful for the archer in Ohio bowhunters seek whitetails
Ohio bowhunters begin a lengthy season through January 29 seeking large healthy whitetails in fields and woodlands. Licensed hunters with deer permits priced 10.75 dollars can hunt from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Lorain County expects around 36 bow kills, with past totals showing strong growth from 19 in 1978 to 31 last season and 91 gun season deer last year. Ravenna area archers win deer hunting permits
Thirty five area archers earned deer hunting permits at Ravenna Army Ammunition Plant through high scores and a second draw. Robert Fazio led the men’s sight shooter class with 1092, Katie Smith won the women’s class with 1086, and junior winners include Todd Ezzo and Theresa Fazio. Local towns with multiple winners include Berea and North Ridgeville. Proceeds fund APCO memorial scholarships at Kent State University. hunts run on Oct 9 to Nov 6 with detailed schedules to be mailed.
