Doctors Testify in Lorain Murder Plot Trial
Dr. Denis Radefeld told the jury he received four threats in 31 years, none from Dr. George Gotsis, who is accused of conspiring with taxi driver George Abraham to murder Radefeld. Radefeld described involvement in a 1972 hospital report on Gotsis and noted Gotsis was dismissed from Lorain Community Hospital, a matter later upheld in court. The cross examination by Gotsis’ attorney sought to undermine Radefeld’s credibility and highlighted Abraham’s earlier alleged murder-plot ties and inconsistent grand jury testimonies. The trial continued into its seventh day.

State Patrol Costs From Elyria Disturbances Top 35 Thousand
The August civil disturbances in Elyria requiring Ohio State Patrolmen cost the state $35,310.17. The State Controlling Board approved payment from the Emergency Purposes Fund to the Department of Highway Safety for patrol assistance, noting the fund has been depleted by recalls and other grants. Other approved items include $3.9 million for recall of 210 Natural Resources employees, $31 million for recall of about 100 Taxation Department workers, and $1.2 million for Pace Officer Training Academy equipment and operation. Still-pending requests seek $2.1 million for Mental Health and Retardation employee recall and $4 million in rents for the new Columbus office tower. The board may borrow from next year’s funds to cover these. Republican State Rep. Frederick N Young criticized the board for large payments, warning they deplete funds meant for true emergencies.
