A 33-year-old Elyria bride, Pauline Logar, critically injured when her car was hit at Lodi and West River Streets. Her husband, Patrolman Anthony Logar, arrived first at the scene and accompanied her to Elyria Memorial Hospital. Witnesses say the other driver, Peacelia Kimble, ran a red light. Kimble and passenger James Jones were hospitalized with injuries, while the Logars had married just four days earlier.
UPI reports American B52 bombers and air strikes killed 63 Communists just below the North South Viet Nam border as Allied commanders warned a decisive battle could be forming. Navy and Air Force pilots flew 143 missions targeting oil depots SAM sites and storage areas.
At a Chicago news conference former President Dwight D. Eisenhower urged President Johnson to define to Mansfield the exact manpower and weapons required to win the Vietnam War. He defended using "as much force as we need to win" and recalled victories in World War II and Korea.
A UPI report states a U.S. Air Force C-119 plane crashed in a national forest near Palmdale California on Friday. Four airmen aboard were killed in the mishap.
TWIISBURG Ohio AP A strike at Chrysler's Twinsburg stamping plant may force production cuts at seven assembly plants. Local 122 United Auto Workers president Bob Weissman said the union's 4,200 members began striking Thursday and Chrysler has only a two day supply of key body parts. If the strike lasts to next Friday, 1967 model production could be crippled.
MOSCOW UPI report notes the Soviet Union’s diplomatic representative to Beijing walked out in protest, signaling a diplomatic dispute between the two nations.
Gov. Rhodes ordered a study to evaluate linking I-71 with Lorain County to aid the Lorain County Regional Airport Authority. He pledged support for a $100,000 state grant and said highway funds would be sought in the next budget. The plan, urged by GOP candidates Weeks Shriver Sweeney Jump, could unlock federal matching funds of about $600,000 and accelerate airport development.
Lorain County Community College begins classes next week with 2695 students enrolled unofficially and two of five buildings ready. Registration continues at the O Neill Sheffield Shopping Center with late adds possible for openings and a $3 fee. Full campus completion is planned for next spring including several new buildings and a dedicated dedication, with final facilities to be ready by April.
Lorain County commissioner Thompson denounced “unnecessary ballyhoo” as controversy over pinpointed site for a new courthouse facility threatens ballot passage. Elyria Chamber of Commerce President Heil questioned use of the existing site and noted the commission’s reply was unclear.

Cypress California AP reports a rapid qualification of Cypress Junior College. Two thousand students now attend after constructing ten by thirty two foot fiberglass reinforced sections in 74 days. Iron erected the college on former Orange Grove field and even trees were transplanted. buildings leased for 419283 dollars annually to the school district.
Hurricane Inez regains power from Caribbean waters and lashes Cuba and Florida. Forecasters warned of renewed danger as the storm moved westward, threatening the U.S. mainland with dangerous winds and heavy rains. Fidel Castro watched the unfolding crisis in Cuba as Inez intensified.
