Van Horn said efforts would be made to salve a dispute over supervision of workers if the min went to work. A continuation of a strike by about 60,000 AFL workers in the Pacific Northwest lumber industry added to four already stalled by private producers. A federal conciliation meeting in Washington failed to yield progress on the wage dispute, closing 24 refineries. CIO Oil Workers Union leader Knight said seizure of refineries would be better than the strike. Gasoline rationing has operated on a voluntary basis in major cities since the refinery strike began two weeks ago.
