George W. Stevel of Elyria retires after 51 years with the New York Central Railroad. He spent 50 miles daily commuting between Elyria and Cleveland, accumulating about 750000 miles. Enrollment blanks for the seventh annual Lorain County Industrial Safety Campaign go out to businesses and plants. Truck Driver Dies In Flames Near Mansfield
Joseph Bigler, 45, of Chillicothe, Ohio, was burned to death when his truck left the highway while passing another truck and burst into flames thirteen miles south of Mansfield. R. G. Flee, also of Chillicothe, was seriously injured and hospitalized. Robert Ness, of Columbus, said steering may have failed causing the truck to swerve. bystanders could not reach Bigler due to heat.
Hypnosis Demonstrated by Magician for Medical Use
New York October first. Joseph Dunninger, noted magician and hypnotist, showed 150 physicians how hypnosis might act as an anesthetic. He induced cataleptic states in Louis Nelson, a 33 year old book dealer, slowed and briefly stopped his heart, then revived him with a phonograph and photograph. Earlier, Irving Bell, 34, a taxicab driver, was placed under control and had three men weighing 445 pounds stand on his rigid body.
