SteelStacks model spurs revival from Bethlehem Steel origin
ArtsQuest and local bodies transformed the Bethlehem Steel site into the SteelStacks arts campus after a 1995 plant closure. The project, built on a 10 acre cap and cover plan within an 1800 acre brownfield, opened in 2011 and blends blast furnaces with sculpture and period details. Community buy in, flexible design, and public private partnerships fueled the revival, with continued emphasis on small business, housing, and tourism across Bethlehem and nearby cities like Sandusky.
