Grand Jury To Probe Grafton Case Involving Louise Hornbeck
County Prosecutor Howard R. Butler announced that far more than nine subpoenas will be used as the grand jury session approaches, with about 30 cases on the docket including the Hornbeck murder. Miss Hornbeck was found dead October 19 near her home after a 9:30 p.m. assault as she returned from Dr. Walter Maple's office. Subpoenas have named Dr. Maple Fort Hornbeck Forest Hornbeck Marshal Joseph Novesky Joseph Eberhart Frank Kubuski Wallis Rader Clifford Mole and Vincent Zakrzewics among others connected to the case. The panel will also review crimes by a Lorain youth gang linked to auto theft armed robbery and kidnapping. Frank Toth the 17 year old ringleader has been placed under jurisdiction.

Mayor Vetoes New Gas Rate Ordinance
Elyria's new gas rate ordinance was vetoed by Mayor Leonard Smith as expected. Councilman Seward N Black announced the plan to refer the bill back to the gas committee and then present it again for final passage over the veto at the December 20 meeting. Black said eight of nine councilors likely support passage. The mayor cited four reasons including rising rates, a step-up feature, potential loss in a pending Public Utilities Commission case, and higher initial charges. He urged dismissal of any rate ordinance that raises rates or dismisses the appeal. The vetoed plan would set average first three years at 66 cents per thousand, fourth year 67.47, fifth year 71.5, with city-wide consumption. Black criticized the mayor for offering nothing better, arguing the five-year plan would save consumers about 61,776.

Plane Crashes Injuring Two Ohio Men En Route to Miami
Weldon Ropp 26 and Richard Thomas 21, both of Fostoria Ohio, were seriously injured when their two passenger Aeronca crashed during takeoff from an emergency airport in Manchester Tennessee. Ropp suffered a jaw fracture and head injuries while Thomas sustained facial cuts and a leg injury. Both were treated at Farrar Hospital and expected to recover. They were part of a caravan of 18 planes en route to the Miami air meet December 3 to 5, spending the night at the emergency field after departing Cincinnati, with witnesses saying the motor failed before the crash. The other 17 planes continued to Miami.

Three thousand depositors of the old National Bank of Commerce at Lorain will share in an 83000 dividend to be paid starting tomorrow.
