End of an Era for Cleveland Irish Club
The Cleveland Irish club, once home to about 1 000 members, has shrunk to a few hundred as aging membership and fewer younger recruits erode its base. Owner Tony Ahern of Ahern's Banquet Center notes similar clubs exist nearby and cites economy and changing spending as factors. The Irish Heritage Center will still host events while the club closes, not affecting the catering business. Contact Steve Fogarty for details.

Residents oppose Lorain city water and sewer charges for out of city customers arguing a 150 percent rate is unfair and may set a countywide pattern. Cordes says city views 150 percent as standard and may press for similar increases elsewhere. A legal challenge is being considered though a formal decision has not yet been made.
