Lorain council approves raises deferring until 1986

A Lorain city council finance committee votes to raise salaries for council members to 6000 a year with the raise effective in 1986 and to increase the clerk of courts and treasurer salaries in 1984. The plan also raises the council president salary in 1986 and 1987, while Mayor Parker questions funding amid a tight city budget.

Marsh Guenin 94 dies. longtime Elyria grocer born 1889

Marsh Guenin, 94, former owner of Marsh Guenin's grocery on Broad Street and West Avenue in Elyria, died Monday at Elyria Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He started the business in 1914 on Middle Avenue, ran it for 53 years, and retired in 1966. He previously worked for Reublin Brothers and Boylan Brothers, served in the Elyria Engineering Department, and later bought the old Reublin Store with $500 capital.

Norman Millward, 73, of Columbia Station died at his home Sunday after a short illness. Born in Pennsylvania, he was a retired stone mason. He is survived by wife Hazel, daughter Lisa Petz of Michigan, and son Jeffrey of Columbia Station. No visitation or services. Malloy Memorial Services of Rocky River is handling arrangements.
