Three Hurt In Collision On Lake Road

Three people were injured in a two car head on collision on Lake Road in Avon at 6 45 p m Saturday when one driver fell asleep Deputy Sheriffs Ed Monroe and Chalmer Davidson reported The injured were Emerson Hess Milwaukee traveling west and Lford Hayes Cleveland driver of the other car who sustained a fractured hip and John McClashan Cleveland passenger Hayes also suffered severe lacerations and bruises They were taken to St Joseph Hospital Lorain Mrs Ernest Robinson Hastings Mich received a chin laceration in a separate accident at Elima Memorial Hospital The report also notes fender damage at Court and Second streets between A Mason Cleveland and Albert Price 1702 West Avenue and a skid into a parked car at Middle Avenue and Seventh Street involving J B Tears 126 Broad Street after he swerved to avoid another vehicle.

World War Vet Dies Suddenly at The Brown Hotel

Earl W. Clifford aged 47 a World War veteran died in his room at The Brown Hotel shortly after 1 a m from a lung hemorrhage. He had been brought to the hotel hours earlier after Veterans of Foreign Wars members raised funds to secure a room for him. Clifford a Dunkirk New York native and Elyria resident was a structural iron worker and served overseas as a corporal in the 196th Engineers. His body was moved to Sudro-Curtis Funeral Home for burial.

New County Kennel Opens Tomorrow At Oberlin Road Site

County commissioners approved the new 32 400 dog kennel at the county garage on Oberlin Road. Daily operation begins tomorrow with Warden Lee Minkler in charge. The prior kennel on Ford Road was run by the County Humane Society and the new facility offers heated quarters, separate dog housing, and a carbon monoxide gas chamber for euthanasia.

Narrow Escape From Gas Fumes In Elyria Home

Mary Flood of 1291 East Avenue was saved from possible gas asphyxiation after her husband returned home yesterday afternoon. He told Elyria firemen he found her on the kitchen floor beside an unlit burner that had been turned on, gas escaping into the kitchen. He shut off the gas and carried her to the back of the house.

Elyria High School will host an assembly Thursday morning in the auditorium where Arthur F. Install New Vault Door At Office Of County Treasurer

The Diebold Safe and Lock Company finished installing a new vault door in the county treasurer Walter J. Wrights office. The door includes three time locks and a combination lock, with work taking a week. A $350 second hand door and a $125 burglar alarm system enhance protection, alongside two earlier safes with time locks. Wright said the office is now better protected than ever. Experts noted an old door could be breached with an ordinary drill in half an hour.

Road Closure Prompts School Bus Transport Arrangements

Elyria township school officials won an agreement with county to provide morning transport for all children affected by Abbe road closure due to a new 16117 dollar bridge over the creek. Students will transfer at Cleveland street and Gulf road to connect with regular buses. The township will handle evening returns. Nine Room House Razed By Flames

Fire destroyed a nine room frame house on the Jones road southeast of Penfield likely from a defective chimney. Owned by the late Jake Wolfe the structure burned rapidly with the Wellington department unable to save it. Most household goods were saved with help from neighbors. Loss estimated at 3000 with insufficient insurance.

Ruling To Be Made Before December 15th

Federal Judge George C. Sweeney heard the first unemployment insurance case under the Social Security Act and took the matter under advisement. He will rule on or before December 15 on Geo. P. Davis of Waltham's injunction to stop Boston and Maine from payroll deductions to the IRS and to block the act's application to his firm.

Pickets Gassed and Arrested at Berkshire Mill Gate

Reading Pa November 30. Fifty six pickets including twelve women were gassed by police and arrested at the Berkshire Knitting Mill gate during a non-violent resistance protest to stop workers from entering the mill where a strike has run since October. Police dispersed them with tear gas and rounded them up for court with many sentenced to thirty days in Berks county jail in lieu of ten dollar fines for loitering or obstructing passage. American Federation of Hosiery Workers officials said they had no connection to the action.

The Knights of Columbus Toy Shop fund committee announces a drive starting tomorrow to raise funds for toys for needy children at Christmas.
