Lorain Schools updated five year forecast shows a cash balance through 2028 with an estimated 9.1 million deficit that grows to 19.7 million in 2029. Revenue gains from higher property values and enrollment steadiness offset planned cuts across eight unions and nonrepresented staff.
Adrian Velez, owner of Lavish Lawn and Tree Service born in Lorain, teams with Manny's Mobile Catering and Best Buds Lawn Care to give away Thanksgiving meals. Using a food truck and St Lads ovens, eight turkeys and other dishes were prepared to serve about 100 people at Lorain Public Library and nearby high-need areas. Velez said the effort embodies giving back, with plans to exceed the target.

In Elyria Township the condition of a woman pulled from a North Ridge Road house fire Tuesday evening remained unknown on Wednesday. Fire Chief Russ Scarborough said she was revived from cardiac arrest en route to Mercy Health Hospital in Lorain and later reported transferred to a Cleveland hospital. Officials withheld her name as investigators from the Elyria Township Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office probe the blaze, which also saw first responders from Sheffield Township and Elyria city on scene. The home was described as hoarder-like with heavy smoke and debris hindering access. several pets were unaccounted for and presumed dead.
Gov Mike DeWine signed a measure restricting transgender students from using multiperson bathrooms in public and private schools from kindergarten through college. The law, opposed by Democrats and civil rights groups, takes effect in 90 days and was signed amid objections over gender identity policies.
