Sharks and tuna talks in Cape Town fail to reach protections
ICCAT members in Cape Town wrap an eight day meeting without consensus on protecting endangered species including the porbeagle shark. A ban on porbeagle fishing was blocked while electronic tracking rules for tuna catches were delayed for a third time amid concerns over illegal fishing and unreported catches. The World Wildlife Fund cites ongoing overfishing and reports of 20 000 tons of unreported tuna last year.
