Violence scarred youth find hope in Cidade Alta dance center
In Cidade Alta, Brazil, an arts center sponsored by Abeta Community Brasil offers ballet, capoeira, and street dance to about 600 students daily. Dancers speak of a pathway out of violence as trainee teams win scholarships and some join municipal theater. The program blends performances with social salvation amid a crime-plagued favela landscape.
