Cal Firefighters Face Major California Brush Fires Still Out of Control
Calmer night winds aided crews fighting seven major brush fires that scorched over 77 000 acres across Riverside and Orange counties. Gov. Edmund Brown Jr toured the scenes, urged a federal disaster declaration, and noted at least 442 homes destroyed while 21 firefighters were injured. The Indian fire near Trabuco Canyon dominated the flames with 28 500 acres in the Santa Ana Mountains, while other blazes including Devore, Summit, Sycamore, Mt Baldy, Lakeland, and Lockwood Valley burned across wide areas with varying containment and arson suspicions.
