Avon Lake OKs BFI trash contract with rising costs
Avon Lake voters approved a three year Browning Ferris Industries contract increasing the average monthly per home charge from 5.65 to 8.76 dollars, raising the city’s annual cost by about 275 thousand dollars. The deal adds grass clipping and heavy item pickups, shifts landfill duties away from the city, and phases in rates to 8.05, 8.73, and 9.51 over three years while maintaining business rates at 8.01.

The Columbia Station Post Office opened Monday at 26535 Royalton Road, near Route 82. It spans about 5,000 square feet, features an outside drive through with snorkel boxes, and will be officially dedicated in December.
