Deadly blizzard hits Midwest and Southeast regions
A severe snow storm paralyzed parts of the Central Plains and Mississippi Valley with over a foot of snow, closing highways in southwest Kansas near Hugoton where drifts reach 10 to 15 feet. Oklahoma towns like Laverne saw 19 inches, while southeast Colorado reported 6 to 12 inches. Thunderstorms and hail troubled the Southeast, with rain and snow sweeping the eastern Gulf states and Atlantic coastal states. Dothan Alabama logged 24 inches of rain in six hours ending 1 pm EST. Columbus Georgia recorded nearly 2 inches.
