Black River Fall Sports Banquet Highlights and Local Notes

The Black River Booster Club hosted a pot luck fall and winter sports banquet with abundant food and festive decorations. Key honors went to Rollin brothers in football and athletics, Coach Bob Kelly praised, and Dr. Grecio Derikito noted as team physician. The event capped by a Happiness Is musical finale and optimism for a first 14 year winning football season. Police quirks and a water main incident followed later in Spencer, with local officials reflecting on community support. The Homer P T O Fall Festival raised about 800 for school needs.

Oberlin professor wins ASCAP award third time

Oberlin College music theory and composition professor Walter E. Aschaffenburg receives his third ASCAP award. His serious music has been performed by the Cleveland Orchestra and he has earned grants from the Fromm Music Foundation Guggenheim Huntington Hartford Foundation and the National Institute of Arts and Letters. He joined the Oberlin conservatory faculty in 1952.
