Five persons sustained minor injuries about midnight when autos collided on Lake Avenue rear Bond Street. Tom Zelse, 36, of 1925 12th Street Lorain drove the car that turned over and struck a tree. Injured were Floyd Dilgard, 38, of R. D. Lorain. Carl Greenfield, 21, of 688 13th Street Lorain. Julins Bakes of 615 Third Street Elyria. Elizabeth Bakns, 22, and infant daughter Evelsn, 22 months, both of Elyria. All were treated at Memorial Hospital. Mr and Mrs Donald White of 237 West River Street were in Bakos’ car and were not injured.

The stratosphere balloonists Lieut. Commander T G W Settle and Major Chester Fordney reached 61237 feet on a nine hour Akron to New Jersey mission. Calibration by the U S Bureau of Standards confirmed the height with official records noting prior estimates between 58000 and 59000 feet.
