Samuel Untermyer, counsel for the joint legislative inquiry, questions former mayoral aide and Commissioner Whalen about Holland and Company holding the ash dumping contract below Canal Street. The firm dumped ashes in New York County Court House excavation from 1918, now costing the city nearly 400000 for removal. Whalen threatens libel suit as tension rises over city finances and possible cover under the city.
Warren G. Harding the president elect landed at Cristobal aboard the Parismina at nine this morning. A noisy harbor welcome greeted him while Mrs Harding went to a hotel. The voyage includes calls at Cristobal Kingston Jamaica and a canal transit with plans to meet Panamanian President Porras and a business audience in Cristobal.

Wilber C Hall fled an appeal from a justice court in a suit against Fred Anderson arising from an auto accident on August 3 near Whiskyville with $300 in damages at stake.
In Boston on Lodt Street, a dispute over a $2.75 short cash register was aired in police court Tuesday. Charles Fairbanks explained the shortfall for owner William Freyberger, who chose not to prosecute. A $10 fine was suspended on condition the defendant pays costs. In Carlisle Pennsylvania on November 23 Julia Drewery 35 was shot and killed in her home while two soldiers stayed over. Floyd A Waller of Sunbury Pa and Jacob Pack of Boston were detained with Waller charged with the killing and Pack held as a witness. Belva Drewery the daughter contradicted the soldiers account saying her mother was with the men upstairs before the shot which authorities say may have been accidental. Police reject the accidental claim noting the bullet pierced the left side under the arm.
Judge Worley morning overruled the motion for a new trial filed by Walter Davies' attorney after his perjury conviction. Davies is allowed until December 1 to appeal to the court of appeals, with sentence suspended until then. Bond set at 10,000 to secure the defendant's appearance. prosecutor sought higher bond but judge deemed 10,000 sufficient given prior hand in another case.
Funeral services for the late George W. Chamberlain are set for tomorrow at 2 PM at Wilkin-Hurst parlors conducted by Rev. John Grant. The burial will be at Ridge Lawn, with services at First Congregational Church.

Police think he spent the night with friends and fears returning home. Witnesses reportedly saw him on the street Tuesday morning.
Parolman Mston Gibson was summoned to West Avenue Tuesday morning where a man on a bicycle was bitten by a savage dog. An officer tried to capture a stray animal when it turned on him, and a precise bullet killed the canine. another dog was rounded up and will likely be disposed of by chloroform.

A tall thin attractive woman is being hunted by Elyria Lorain and Oberlin police for passing stolen checks last Saturday. She appeared at an Oberlin bank depositing 125 dollars, claimed to seek a residence, and withdrew funds from Lews Mercantile Merthe Dry Goods John Lerach Boston Store Lorain. Checks ranged 3 to 26 dollars, leaving 125 dollars in bank. She vanished. Also listed marriage licenses for Wiliam William and Anna Mor, Louis Svac and Helen Tomcho.

Prosecuting attorney schedules first degree murder trial of Christ Laros of Lorain for December 18. Jurors are being summoned by Sheriff Backus and deputies after Laros is charged with killing Peter Paul on June 30 in front of his home. Laros fled to the woods then reached Cleveland street and boarded a car to Cleveland before arrest. Jury panel includes numerous residents listed from Lorain Amherst Wellington and Elyria with names such as Gratien Coon Achmasen and H W Miller.
