Commission for Relief Named by City Officials

A six person relief commission will be appointed by Service Director Fred Underhill to take charge of relief work, under an ordinance adopted by the council. The non political panel, patterned after state relief regulations, aims to reduce mayoral control over relief matters. Mayor Van Oster urged adoption, citing perceived county distribution shortfalls to Elyria and insisting the new body could better handle relief needs. Councilman Rankin supported the move as the best method to manage relief. Local figures urged provisions for evicted tenants, with comments from Tom and others stressing housing needs amid landlord concerns.
