YMCA workers race to hit 26900 48 hour goal for 1927 Chest drive

At a noon luncheon the YMCA drive for the Community Chest reported 36929 pledged and 63151 contributed so far. Workers listed team totals from 11 ladies teams and 13 men teams with amounts ranging from 185 to 527 dollars. Industrial concerns noted on page 2.

Alibi witnesses place Stevens fishing during noted murders

Alibi witnesses testified that Henry Stevens was fishing on the Levalletts beach the night of the crime, countering the case against him and his siblings for the deaths of Rev. Philip Edelman of Rochester reports two masked men robbed him at gunpoint on the Bisma Channel road near Ridgeville, taking $25. Sheriff Underhill alerted Dover and Lakewood residents to watch for the suspects as they headed toward Tevas. Edelman was forced to walk down the road during the incident.

Youth slays two, wounds third in Bridgeton shooting

Nov 22 Bridgeton police report a youth, Linwood re, 22, opened fire at breakfast with an automatic pistol, killing two people and wounding a third. The suspect fled a block away and was arrested without a struggle. The victims include Mrs Mare Hae Maxwell, an sister, who died at the scene. further details state the third victim remains in danger.

Cleveland November 22. Liquor violators dominated arraignments in federal court with 80 charged under the National Prohibition Act. Fifteen faced narcotics law infringements and the rest faced various infractions.

A fierce early morning blaze in a downtown Los Angeles apartment building killed three people, two of them women, and badly injured four others including two firefighters. The deceased were Elizabeth Stage, 69, and Mr. and Mrs. Rockwell, all residents of Los Angeles.

Union County and Ohio Reformatory officials search for Dorothy Gueran aged 28 and Esa Chrysler aged 26 who fled the Ohio reformatory for women in Warrsville while serving sentences for larceny from Cleveland. Both were reported to be at large after escaping from the institution.

Bowser Denies Murder in Steubenville Farm Case

Canton Ohio November 22 William Bowser a farmhand charged with the murder of Nellie Hermon and her brother on a Steubenville area farm last March 2 was arrested in Canton and turned over to Jefferson County authorities. Bowser denied guilt repeating Ed didn't do it as detectives questioned him. He is charged with killing Nellie Hermon and her brother and with crimes tied to the body including alleged postmortem assault and hanging. Further details continue on page two.

Fatal Accident at Huron Street Crossing Sunday Night

A northbound B. and O. coal train struck a car at the Huron street crossing at 9 30 p.m. killing Richard Emig 42 of Lakewood and Ada Emig 39. Richard died at 3 10 a.m. Ada died instantly. Coroner says accidental death. Emig was an experimental engineer for the Peerless Automobile Co. and once worked for Cadillac in Detroit. The couple, who had no children, were enroute from Detroit to Lakewood to visit relatives. Funeral plans underway as relatives travel from Detroit. City officials may seek safety upgrades at the crossing.

Fall and Doheny Begin Conspiracy Trial in Washington

Twenty veniremen passed through the jury box in the conspiracy trial of former Interior Secretary Albert B. Fall and Edward E. Doheny. Defense used four of ten peremptory challenges, government used two. Jurors were questioned about personal inquiries by mysterious parties and two retirees reported such inquiries without being challenged at noon. The trial opened in Justice Hochling's drab courtroom and continued after a noon recess.

Ten local Elyria boys will attend the IY M A Older Born Conference at Lima on Friday to Sunday.
