City opens rebuilt bridge after long delays
Former Mayor John Higgins had the old bridge torn down in 2000 and work halted on the new bridge in 2003 due to a faulty design. The city settled a 2005 suit with Brunkhorst Engineering, demolished the half finished structure, and reopened the rebuilt span to traffic after a final walk through by fire officials and contractors. Costs rose from under 800000 to about 1800000. Dietrich noted the project is now complete and open to traffic.
