Lace plant of Elyria shaped local industry and art
A 1914 postcard memorializes Elyria lace making at 711 Taylor St as a major Ohio plant. Arthur Garford helped organize American Lace Co in 1906, with craftspeople from England and Scotland. The factory closed in 1953 after war work and postwar shifts. lace's history spans centuries from economic staple to delicate art. The note also highlights lace's cultural legacy and Elyria’s 175th anniversary song by Jack Elton and Ken Clark.
