Ohio nursing homes threaten welfare patients over cost formula

The move could affect 73 patients in four Lorain County homes and roughly 17,000 welfare patients statewide, with fears of higher state costs if patients are sent to hospitals. Hospital referrals would raise costs five to six times. Wheeler, former Ohio Nursing Homes Association president, labels the plan disastrous while some facilities oppose the move.
