First Church Here Now 100 Years Old Observances Planned
In spring 1817 a West Springfield band of pioneers founded what became Elvin. The First Church formed in 1824 after examinations by Betts Lathrop Treat and Kirk. The 1848 stone church on Court and Second streets opened with a clock and organ later moved to Holy Cross Catholic church.
