St Mary votes on land sale in Elyria parish survey

More than 200 parishioners gathered Thursday night to vote on selling a portion of the St Mary Catholic Church Third Street property to the county for a new justice center. Rev Joseph Weigand said results from the survey on sale and price are not yet tabulated and should be ready next week for the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland.

Beating in South Park leaves Elyria man in critical care

Elyria—Randall D Perkins, 29, was beaten and his Ford Ranger stolen by several men after a 2:20 am visit to a friend at 1864 Middle Ave. Perkins, with a closed head injury, was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland and placed in the surgical ICU. Jamie L Melton, 30, injured in the assault, was treated at EMH Regional Medical Center. both victims escaped as suspects fled, leaving the truck abandoned near 15th Street and West Avenue.

Mechanical failure blamed for fatality

Elyria The Chronicle Telegram reports on July 27 1996 the driver of a 1930 Model A roadster testifying that recklessness caused a crash that killed passenger Edward Phil Stubblefield. George Longcoy 47 said he never wanted to drive but agreed to give a ride. owner Larry Martin of Cleveland urged him to take Stubblefield. The crash occurred after the car hit a ditch and wrapped around a telephone pole.
