Ex Klansman cost county in housing and care
URBANA AP A former Klansman tied to the 1981 killing of a black man has cost Champaign County about $25,000 as officials oppose transferring him to Alabama. Ben nie Jack Hays, 76, has run up over $15,000 in medical bills since his September arrest on a governor’s warrant. County housing needs for Hays in the women’s section have forced sending female offenders to other counties at a cost of $7,050.
