Teletext printouts reach British homes. US eyes model
The United States previews a Teletext system that overlays newspaper style content on TV. Developed by the BBC and Ceefax, it offers news, sports, ads, puzzles and recipes via decoders built into regular TV sets. FCC hearings loom as Britain expands to millions of sets by 1982. A prototype print device will soon let viewers receive 5 by 6 inch printouts.

Army couple goes absent with infant on Germany tour
Kent and Maureen Adkins, both Army specialists, left Iowa for a three year Germany tour, abandoning eight month old Barbara due to housing limits for a family. Barbara stays with grandparents. Mrs Adkins says separation could last from a month to six months or the full tour.

Robber leaves no fingerprint just finger
Detectives usually lift fingerprints but a gunman at Broad National Bank in North Arlington, New Jersey, lost a finger tip when his sawed-off shotgun discharged. The fingertip and glove will be sent to state labs. police hope a print may identify one of two suspects.

Thieves clean sweep of appliances in Queens haul
In Queens, a trailer loaded with 116 Kenmore washing machines and dryers was stolen, valued at about 86000 dollars. The owner had parked the tractor-trailer on a street near his parents’ home to deliver to a Sears store in New Jersey, but found the trailer missing around 5 30 a.m. Sunday. Police described a well lit area and noted the cab remained while the trailer disappeared.
