Amherst man Elmer Smith sentenced for embezzlement at post office
Elmer Smith, 36, of Amherst, received a federal sentence of a year and a day after pleading guilty to embezzling 4457.78 at the Amherst Post Office during 10 years of service. Federal Judge Paul Jones ordered the term in Cleveland. Smith had faced a theft charge originally for 3590 dollars, later clarified by an audit covering 1941 to last month, minus a three year Navy absence.
