Great Earth Slide Threatens Pittsburgh Rail Line

Damoke estimates place total loss from the ongoing slide of earth and rock from Bigelow Boulevard at 1,000,008 to 2,000,000 dollars. Nine steam shovels are moving material, with about five thousand tons sent out daily by special train toward the Pennsylvanian railroad terminal. The slide began as the city tried to straighten a boulevard curve above the rail yard, linking the business district with the East End residences. Railroad officials have issued an emergency schedule to reroute passenger trains via the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago line.
