Soviet warned over Pershing deployment in Europe
A Kremlin spokesman warned Geneva arms talks would break off if Pershing 2 missiles are deployed in Europe. Kohl said the Soviets floated new proposals and may concede if British and French arsenals join talks. NATO plans 464 Cruise and 108 Pershing 2 missiles targeting Soviet SS-20s, with initial shipments arriving in Britain and West Germany next month. Zamyatin warned Moscow would strike at Pershing and cruise missiles in a massive retaliation if conflict occurs.
