Lorain boards, city sign PILOT deals for school funding
Lorain schools receive a smaller share of taxes from PILOT deals while the city gains bulk funding. Two TIF projects in Lorain, including a Taco Bell at 3671 Oberlin Ave and a GenFed Credit Union at 5320 Oberlin Ave, prompted board concern. The district faces costs totaling about 112 thousand dollars over ten years, while Lorain gains around 158 thousand. The board pressed for protections and a revised agreement, and approved a new 12 000 square foot administration building on the high school campus funded from the general fund. Furnishings contracts and a website upgrade were approved to accompany district growth.
