Rhea at Zoo Sparks Ownership Dispute
A Darwin rhea from an Oberlin Road farm was captured after escaping last month. The bird, described as a more endangered variety, was brought to the zoo where keeper Pekarek noted ownership is contested and the zoo may relocate it to a suitable facility. The insurance payout tied to the neighbor’s dog incident complicates who technically owns the bird. Hinckley, the former owner, was unavailable for comment.

County agencies face tight 1993 budget in dispute outcome
Early verdicts suggest the 1993 Lorain County budget will be tight and jurors may have favored the agencies, but if the decision stands the county would face bills and may need to reinterpret how charges were calculated. The Easter Seals Society and several other agencies warn of potential hardship and possible court review. The suit includes Nord Community Mental Health Center, Lorain County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, and others.
