Major gas line puncture halts Elyria downtown work

An 8 inch gas distribution line ruptured during a sewer relief project near East Avenue and Fourth Street in Elyria. Off duty crews and police joined the response as roads were closed and schools organized dropoffs. Columbia Gas repaired the line by 7 20 p m with no injuries reported and the project continuing.

Lorain County transit study urges $3.4 million upgrades

WSP USA presented to Lorain County commissioners a plan to expand routes to Walmart medical stops and Elyria Community College. It calls for hourly or half hourly service, longer hours and evening runs with park and ride links to Cuyahoga County. Estimated cost 3.4 million with half funded by federal grants.

Gibson Bakery fight with Oberlin College drags on in court

Oberlin College stopped buying from Gibson's Bakery after a 2016 shoplifting incident. Owner David Gibson says the business has not paid him since, and he has sued the college for over 200000 alleging libel slander and interference with contracts. A protest group defended Gibson's outside the shop as tensions linger.
