Cleveland Aims New 24 Hour Homeless Shelter In year
Ruth Anne Gillett of the Cleveland Office of Homeless Services welcomed new legislation and outlined funding. Cleveland received 1.25 million dollars in federal money for the homeless this year, 500000 of which goes to Project Heat. The four temporary shelters operate with limited beds and toilets, serving about 75 nightly during cold spells and 620 total capacity. Salvation Army officials expect a new shelter this year. Most homeless are men, with rising numbers of women and children due to crack cocaine addiction and domestic violence.
