Morgenthau Replaces Woodin Acheson Taken at Treasury
Washington reports Henry Morgenthau Jr. is sworn in as undersecretary and takes control of the treasury with Dean Acheson as undersecretary while William Woodin remains on leave for health. The move aligns with inflationists who favor currency expansion and a dollar tied to commodity prices. France and Britain consider protections as the dollar debate heats up.

Vagt program to give jobs outlined in regional meetings
Washington November 15. A plan to remove 4,000,000 unemployed from relief rolls within a month by cutting red tape and launching city work projects costing 400 million dollars was outlined to 500 state municipal and relief officials in regional sessions. The program, described by President Roosevelt Public Works Administrator Ickes and Relief Administrator Hopkins, divides the nation into three zones to speed administration. Governors mayors engineers and relief officials in northern central and southern zones held executive sessions. Mayor Walmsley of New Orleans said funds would be allocated 75 percent by population and 25 percent by relief burden, a basis the federal government will use for disbursements to states and subdivisions. If a state city or town rejects work relief, they will lose any share. Hundreds of projects are planned with none contracted yet. wages will vary by zone from 1 to 120 cents per hour.
